Strikers 2011 - Session #4

What a beautiful Sunday this was!  The weather was beautiful, leading to a great soccer day.

The kindergartners and first graders started as they always do, playing soccer mini games with Coach Phil from NOGA.  Several of you have asked me for the "playbooks" that Phil uses, so you can practice with your kids using the same games - you can get either a sample kindergarten playbook or a sample 1st grade playbook.  These were put together for a different soccer league, but the contents is still very much applicable to our league.

After playing the mini games, the first graders split up into two separate squads, and played two separate games (at the suggestion of Coach Phil).  This enabled the players to get more touches each.

For the second and third graders, Phil again focused on position skills within the context of the game - for example, he worked with the goalies and defensive players helping them understand how they can better play their positions.  We all felt it was better to allow the game to continue, and provide coaching within the game, rather than interrupt the game to play mini games.

For the forth and fifth graders, Phil also focused on position skills within the context of the game.

Photographs today were taken by Alyssa Lipman and Sarah Shamash.  Enjoy!
