Solomon's Strikers Soccer Recreational Sports League
Solomon's Strikers Soccer Recreational League is part of the Solomon's Sunday Sports recreational league, which is an important part of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Long Island in Jericho, New York.
Solomon's Sunday Sports Recreational League has three distinct programs:
Solomon's Strikers Soccer, which is active in the fall.
Solomon's Slammers Basketball, which is active in the winter.
Solomon's Sluggers Baseball, which is active in the spring.
The league is co-ed and open to all children from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The emphasis of this recreational league is not on winning, but on having fun, improving one’s skills, getting some exercise and becoming physically fit, and learning good sportsmanship and fellowship. We welcome Jewish children from our sponsor school, Solomon Schechter of Long Island, as well as any other school from all over Long Island and Queens.
The games are only played on Sundays with schedules that avoid Jewish Holidays, which makes our program ideal for Jewish families.
The league is composed of multiple teams formed by grade level, so children about the same age and skill level play each other. Each morning, before the games begin, we will form teams, trying our best to balance out the teams so the play is balanced, so it can be enjoyed by all.
In order for this style of program to be a complete success, we ask for parent volunteers to coach our teams, and seek corporate sponsorship to help offset the costs. Sponsors are featured on the back of jerseys, as well as promoted on the league web sites.
We do ask that all who join our programs adhere to Solomon Schechter’s policy of bringing only Kosher, Peanut-Free drinks and snacks to our games and all activities. The Solomon's Sunday Sports programs have been a very positive part of their Solomon Schechter experience. We really hope you are part of it.
